Partners and Supporters
Our Corporate PartnersWe have a range of partnerships from focused one-off initiatives through to longer term relationships, where both our partners and ourselves achieve our strategic aims:
MEDIBANK PRIVATEWe're very excited to announce a brand new long-term community partnership with Medibank Private, Australia's favourite health insurance fund. The partnership will focus on co-promoting how our pets positively affect our health and wellbeing and promote responsible pet ownership.
Medibank will also be helping Lort Smith to promote our many services and programs to new audiences and will be providing support to the vital work we do, through volunteering and campaign donations.
Medibank are also key sponsors of our pet therapy program PALS.
PETS AT HOME
Pets at Home and Lort Smith have worked closely together over the last 11 months to address the issues around pet shops, back yard breeding and the resulting number of unwanted companion animals. Through the partnership, we have developed and set up dedicated Lort Smith Animal Hospital Adoption Centres in every Pets at Home store. These are run in exactly the same manner as our on-site adoption shelters, with all animals vet checked, wormed and desexed prior to adoption. To date, the in-store adoption centres have re-homed nearly 500 cats and dogs to good homes and Pets at Home have raised funds to support Lort Smith shelters by conducting in-store promotions and events.
For Pets at Home the partnership has helped raise their profile as a responsible business, set the Pets at Home brand above its peers as an example of best practice, promoted the company as an employer of choice and helped increase sales with the discerning pet-loving public.
GENETIC TECHNOLOGIES (BITSA) Genetic Technologies is a leading-edge Australian biotechnology company, at the forefront of DNA technologies and research. As pioneers in the area of canine genetics, their canine DNA BITSA test - Breed Identification Through Scientific Analysis - provides dog owners with a "family tree" of their dog's breed history. Test results are presented in a personalised detailed report which covers all of the key features including health, temperament and preferred play activities of the breeds which are found in the dog's test results. In addition to the report, customers also receive a BITSA doggy passport, with the dog's photo and an official result certificate. For more information on the BITSA test and details on how to order, click here
Lort Smith have joined Genetic Technologies as their charity partner of choice, for the BITSA brand and we are promoting the kit, with a percentage of proceeds donated back to Lort Smith. The kit has also already proven a huge asset in our shelter kennels enabling us to find good homes for a number of dogs that could have proved difficult to re-home due to uncertain breed parentage. Using the test we have been able to deal with restrictions regarding dangerous dog breeds.
GRIBBLES
Gribbles are one of our major suppliers and we have extended our good relationship with this company by working with them to set up a Veterinary Nurses' Development Fund. Gribbles contribute back to the hospital every quarter into a dedicated fund that is open to all Lort Smith Veterinary Nurses to apply to for career development opportunities such as conferences, seminars, workshops and training courses. In addition to external opportunities, Gribbles also donates pro-bono places on their own set of seminars throughout the year. For Gribbles, the partnership has secured supplier loyalty from LSAH as one of their major customers, and raised their profile in a very positive manner with their main target audience – vets and vet nurses. AAMI

We receive, on average, around 4-5 severely injured pets into our Intensive Care Unit every week as a result of road traffic accidents. Lort Smith worked with leading insurer AAMI to collate information from road users and pet owners to increase the knowledge base on road traffic accidents involving companion animals with an aim to educate the public on the risks and dangers and ultimately reduce the number of accidents happening.
