Lort Smith Animal Hospital is one of the largest not for proft hospitals in the world, providing quality care for over 100,000 lost, abandoned, mistreated and sick animals annually.

We promote the benefits of the human bond through our community partnerships and educating on responsible pet ownership.

Hospital Overview

Lort Smith Animal Hospital is open 365 days of the year to provide professional, affordable veterinary care for your pets. We are available for general consultations for routine procedures, such as vaccinations, health checks and microchipping as well as treating sick, stray and injured animals. Emergency treatment is available from 8:30am until midnight.

All vets are fully qualified and are registered with the Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria. Our large team of 26 dedicated and caring full time vets are able to provide all manner of veterinary services for your pets. We also have a consultant in medicine providing endoscopy, echocardiography and ultrasonography services, a consultant in dermatology including skin and ear problems, and a wildlife consultant who has experience in the more exotic varieties of pets such as reptiles, birds and pocket pets.

Lort Smith Animal Hospital has a large four-theatre complex as well as a treatment area. We regularly perform routine surgical procedures such as neutering and dentistry work, and we have experienced vets who are able to perform many of the more complex soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures.

We utilise state-of-the-art equipment for patient monitoring, in-house pathology, as well as having an intensive care ward with a dedicated ICU nurse, and a second-to-none digital x-ray imaging system..

For routine, non-urgent cases, appointments are preferred and encouraged to avoid unnecessary waiting periods. On public holidays we are open for emergencies and critical cases, which can be attended to anytime from 8:30am up to 12 midnight. Emergency cases can also be attended to every day of the year between these times.
